Understanding The Sadie Family, Soldaat, Swartland, Coastal Region
The grapes for The Sadie Family Wines Soldaat are sourced from carefully chosen vineyards around Table Mountain, embodying the essence of the Swartland region in South Africa. Diverse soils include rich decomposed sandstone formations. This, combined with a Mediterranean climate creates the perfect conditions for cultivating exceptional grapes. The vineyards are diligently managed, ensuring that the grapes reach optimal ripeness and flavour complexity. Grapes are partly destemmed and part-whole clusters for fruit flavour concentration and structure balance. Fermentation in concrete on skins follows to encourage deep flavour and colour extraction ahead of pressing in an old basket press. The wine ages in concrete for eight months on lees followed by a further four months on finer lees, adding layers of depth and character. The Sadie Family Wines Soldaat features dark fruit, subtle hints of spice and tobacco hints in a complex, velvety palate. This wine has the potential to age gracefully.
