Vergelegen's V is crafted from carefully selected vineyards located in the estate's prime areas, which benefit from a microclimate ideally suited to Bordeaux varietals. The estate's diverse soil types and the coastal influence of the nearby ocean create an environment that allows for the production of grapes with intense flavours and balanced acidity. This terroir is a critical component in shaping the distinct character of Vergelegen V. The grapes are hand-harvested and sorted to ensure only the best quality fruit is used. Following fermentation, the wine undergoes extended enriching maceration and softening malolactic fermentation in new French oak. It then matures in oak for 16 months and in bottle for a further 24 months before release. The maturation treatment is carefully managed to ensure it complements the wine's fruit profile. Vergelegen V features dark, hints of spice, tobacco and a subtle minerality in a well-structured palate with refined tannins. This wine has significant ageing potential.
