Understanding Klein Constantia, Vin De Constance, Constantia, Coastal Region
The grapes for Vin de Constance are grown in the unique, sea-influenced microclimate and fertile granite soils of the Constantia Valley, which contribute to the development of the intense aromatics and flavours in the grapes. The vineyards are included in the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) so are carefully managed to achieve the perfect balance of ripeness and acidity essential for this style of wine. Grapes are handpicked when at optimal ripeness. Fruit is divided between a range of oak barrels and foudres to age for 36 months on lees for texture enrichment before blending and bottling. At this stage, the wine undergoes a further six months of maturation, enhancing complexity. Klein Constantia Vin De Constance displays apricot, orange peel, honey and spice in a luxuriant, sweet palate balanced by vibrant acidity. This wine has outstanding ageing capacity.
