Understanding Kusuda, Pinot Noir, Martinborough, Wairarapa

The vineyards for Kusuda Pinot Noir lie in the gravelly soils of Martinborough, where the cool climate plays a pivotal role in the slow ripening of grapes, allowing for an intricate development of flavours and aromas. Kusuda's dedication to quality is evident in every aspect of vineyard management, from careful pruning to ensuring optimal grape health and ripeness. Grapes are hand-harvested with scrupulous care and undergo rigorous sorting to ensure only the best fruit is used. The winemaking process involves fermentation with indigenous yeasts, underlining the natural characteristics of the grape and the terroir. The wine is then aged for 15 months in French oak, about one-third of which is new. This lends the wine subtle oak nuances while preserving the integrity of the fruit. Kusuda Pinot Noir features ripe red berry, cherry and a hint of spice, intertwined with earthy undertones and a touch of minerality in a silky palate with well-integrated tannins. This wine has exceptional cellaring potential.
