Understanding Cloudy Bay, Te Koko Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, Marlborough
The grapes for Te Koko are sourced from four of Cloudy Bay's prime old vineyards in Marlborough, a region famed for its Sauvignon Blanc, thanks to its stony soils and maritime climate. These conditions contribute to the development of the grapes' intense flavour profiles and balanced acidity, which are the backbone of Te Koko. Te Koko undergoes a combination of barrel fermentation with natural yeasts and ageing in French oak, along with a prolonged period on yeast lees. This process imparts the wine with a remarkable texture and complexity, setting it apart from typical Sauvignon Blancs. This wine displays tropical fruit, nutty and smoky notes and a creamy yet crisp finish and can cellar for about a decade.
