The origins of Te Mata Coleraine are in the heart of Hawke's Bay, New Zealand's premier wine region, where the vineyards benefit from a temperate maritime climate and diverse soils. The Coleraine vineyards in particular are home to the top-quality grapes that compose this illustrious Bordeaux-style blend. Meticulous vineyard management and a focus on sustainable practices ensure the grapes achieve optimal ripeness and flavour expression. Each parcel of grapes is destemmed to promote fruit expression followed by fermentation and extended skin maceration. The wine ages for 17 months in French oak, a high proportion of which is new. This careful handling results in a wine that beautifully reflects its terroir and showcases the balance of its components. Te Mata Coleraine displays dark fruit, cassis, subtle cedar and tobacco notes in a plush, well-structured palate. This wine has impressive ageing potential.
