Understanding Craggy Range, Le Sol, Gimblett Gravels, Hawke's Bay
The Gimblett Gravels winegrowing area, where Le Sol's grapes are cultivated, is renowned for its stony, well-draining soils and warm microclimate, providing optimal conditions for growing Syrah. These factors contribute significantly to the concentrated flavours, structure and aromatic complexity of the grapes. Le Sol is crafted with a philosophy of minimal intervention, allowing the terroir to speak through the wine. The grapes are hand-harvested and a good part are fermented in whole bunches to encourage fruit and tannin balance. The wine ages in part-new French oak for 17 months, enhancing its complexity and adding subtle layers of spice and texture. Le Sol features rich dark fruit, fine tannins and a peppery finish, making it a highly acclaimed wine with excellent ageing potential.
