Understanding Rippon, Tinker's Field Pinot Noir Mature Vine, Wanaka, Central Otago
The Tinker Field vineyard is famed for its ancient schist soils and the microclimate of Lake Wanaka, which create optimal conditions for growing Pinot Noir. The mature vines, some of the oldest in the region, yield grapes with extraordinary depth and complexity. Hand-harvesting ensures that only the best grapes are selected. Grapes are partly destemmed to promote fruit and structure balance. Parcels are fermented with natural yeasts and matured individually before blending to preserve unique features. The wine ages for 10 months in French oak, a percentage of which is new and is bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve terroir expression. Rippon Tinker Field Mature Vine Pinot Noir features red and dark fruit, earthy, mineral notes and a hint of herbal complexity in an elegant, intense palate with silky tannins. This wine has considerable ageing promise.
