Understanding M. Sorrel, Hermitage, Les Rocoules, Rhone
The vineyard for Rocoules is a jewel within the Hermitage region, known for its distinctive soil composition and microclimate that are ideal for nurturing Marsanne grapes. The age of the vines, coupled with the vineyard's south-facing slopes, ensures optimal ripening of the grapes, leading to a wine with remarkable depth and complexity. Grapes are hand-harvested at the perfect moment of maturity and gently pressed to extract the purest juice. Fermentation takes place in large French oak barrels, a process that imparts a subtle, refined woodiness to the wine, complementing the natural flavours of the Marsanne grape. Maturation partly takes place on fine lees to add textural richness. In all, the ageing process covers 18 months. M. Sorrel Hermitage Blanc Rocoules displays ripe pear, apricot and spice in a rich, balanced palate supported by a backbone of minerality. This wine promises to evolve gracefully with time.
