The Varonniers vineyard is characterised by its terraced slopes, distinctive granitic soil composition and the estate’s oldest Crozes-Hermitage vines. The vineyard's location on the border of the Hermitage hill contributes to the complexity and intensity of the grapes, imbuing the wine with a distinctive profile. M. Chapoutier's philosophy of winemaking emphasises the expression of terroir and the inherent qualities of the Syrah grape. Vinification occurs in small concrete tanks to promote fruit intensity. Fermentation lasts for one month, a step that helps smooth the integration of tannins. The wine matures largely in old oak with a small portion of new casks for up to 18 months, a stage that creates complexity without masking the Syrah fruit expression. Varonniers displays ripe black fruit interlaced with hints of liquorice, black pepper and a touch of smokiness in a full-bodied and robust palate with velvety tannins. This wine has the capacity to evolve gracefully over time.
