Understanding Stephane Ogier, Cote Rotie, Reserve, Rhone
Fruit is sourced from carefully selected sites with vines that have an average of 40 years. With vineyard slopes boasting exceptional sun exposure for rich fruit ripening, this wine captures the essence of the region, offering a profound and elegant expression of Syrah. Stéphane Ogier employs traditional winemaking techniques to bring out the best in the Côte-Rôtie Reserve. Grapes see cold maceration in heat-controlled stainless steel tanks to tease out fruit flavours and colour. They are then partly whole-cluster fermented with natural yeasts to add structure while retaining fruit concentration. Ageing takes place in part-new French oak barrels for 20 months, contributing to the wine's complexity while preserving its elegance and balance. This wine features dark fruit, violet, hints of smoked meat, black pepper and olive tapenade in a silky palate with well-integrated tannins. This Côte-Rôtie has exceptional cellaring capacity.
