Understanding Pierre Gaillard, Cote Rotie, Poupre Rose, Rhone
Rosé Poupre hails from the Côte Rozier single parcel vineyard which is just under one hectare and found in the heart of the Côte Brune. The soils in this steeply-sloped vineyard are rich in iron oxide, adding density to the grapes. Fruit is harvested and sorted manually to ensure only the finest grapes are vinified. During the winemaking process, clusters are entirely destemmed to help promote fruit purity and structural balance. This wine partly ferments in oak and is matured in fine oak barrels, 50% of which are new, for 18 months. Every four months, oxygen is added to encourage finessed composition and aromatic and flavour expression. The resulting wine is a delicate balance of fruitiness and structure, showcasing the artistry of Pierre Gaillard. Pierre Gaillard Côte-Rôtie Rosé Poupre displays concentrated blackberry, liquorice and savoury spices in a lush, velvety palate with firm tannins. This Côte-Rôtie has considerable cellaring potential.
