Understanding Marie et Pierre Benetiere, Cote Rotie, Cordeloux, Rhone
Cordeloux is made from fruit grown organically in the Corps de Loup vineyard. It’s characterised by its steep, terraced slopes and the distinctive granite, schist and sandy soil composition providing ideal conditions for the Syrah grape. This environment, coupled with the area's microclimate, is conducive to producing grapes with intense flavour and excellent balance. Grapes are harvested by hand and fermentation is carried out with natural yeasts to promote terroir expression. The wine ages in part-new oak for 18 to 22 months. In traditional Northern Rhône fashion, a small quantity of Viognier is added before it’s bottled without fining or filtering. Cordeloux displays dark fruit, violet and a hint of smoky minerality in a powerful, peppery, finessed palate with well-integrated tannins. This red has considerable cellaring potential.
