Understanding M. Chapoutier, Cote Rotie, La Mordoree, Rhone

The vineyard from which the Mordorée is sourced features mica-schist and loess soils, steep slopes, and the beneficial microclimate of the Northern Rhône Valley. The plot is located next to the acclaimed “Côte Blonde” vineyard. These factors contribute significantly to the development of the Syrah grapes, imparting them with intensity and a distinct minerality. Grapes are hand-harvested and destemmed to balance fruit expression and structure. Vinification takes place in concrete with careful extraction methods teasing out rich colour and tannins. The wine matures in part-new oak for up to 18 months, a step which imbues it with delicate oak and fruit, enhancing its natural elegance without overwhelming it. Mordorée displays dark berry, violet and exotic spice complemented by subtle hints of smoked meat and earth in a harmonious palate with refined tannins. This wine possesses excellent cellaring potential.
