Understanding Gilles Barge, Cote Rotie, Brune, Rhone
The vineyard for the Côte-Rôtie Brune is planted primarily with Syrah, the quintessential grape of the region, complemented by a minor proportion of Viognier. The vines thrive in nourishing soils that impart minerality and complexity to the wine. Gilles Barge employs traditional winemaking techniques to produce the Côte-Rôtie Brune. The grapes are handpicked and meticulously sorted to ensure the use of only the best fruit. Fruit isn’t destemmed, a step that ensures a powerful structure to balance the concentrated fruit. The wine is aged in large oak barrels for 30 months. This process adds depth and nuance without overpowering the natural flavours of the wine. Brune exhibits dark fruit, pepper and floral undertones supported by a mineral backbone with well-integrated tannins. This Côte-Rôtie presents an excellent cellaring potential.
