Understanding du Monteillet, Cote Rotie, Grandes Places, Rhone
The Cote Rotie Grandes Places is primarily made from Syrah, with a small percentage of Viognier, adhering to the traditional practices of the region. This tiny vineyard, located on steep, terraced slopes, has one of the best terroirs in the appellation. It’s known for its challenging growing conditions, which include a dynamic climate and distinct soil compositions of mica schist. Manual harvesting is key to selecting the most suitable fruit. The grapes are entirely destemmed to balance fruit power and structure and undergo a long fermentation. Maturation takes place in new French oak for 42 months. This step develops complexity and depth without masking the fruit purity. Cote Rotie Grandes Places displays dark berry, violet, pepper and a hint of smoked meat supported by a robust, elegant tannic structure. This wine has exceptional longevity.
