Understanding Domaine Rostaing, Cote Rotie, La Landonne, Rhone
Landonne vineyard, with its steep, terraced slopes and sandy soils rich in iron oxide, is the source of the exceptional Syrah. The challenging terrain and the unique soil composition play a crucial role in imparting depth and intensity to the grapes. Fruit is hand-harvested to ensure only the finest sees vinification. Depending on the vintage, grapes can be partially destemmed to promote a balance of fruit depth and tannic power. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel with natural yeasts in a process that allows the wine to develop its full array of flavours and aromas. Maturation occurs in barrels, a minimal portion of which is new French oak. This meticulous stage adds just enough complexity while preserving the inherent qualities of the Syrah grape. Landonne features rich, dark fruit with notes of smoke, spice and a distinct minerality, all framed by elegant tannins and vibrant acidity, making it a compelling choice for ageing.
