Understanding Domaine Rostaing, Cote Rotie, Cote Blonde, Rhone
The Blonde vineyards, distinguished by their lighter, silica-rich soils and gentler slopes, provide the ideal setting for Syrah and Viognier grapes. These conditions yield grapes with a subtler flavour profile and elegance, contrasting the more robust style typically associated with the Côte Rotie's darker, iron-rich soils. Hand-harvesting of optimally-ripened grapes ensures the selection of the highest quality fruit. Clusters aren’t destemmed, a step that provides power to the wine. The co-fermentation of Syrah with a small percentage of Viognier, a traditional practice in the region, adds complexity and a delicate floral dimension to the wine. Ageing in oak barrels, a small portion of which are new, contributes to the wine's depth and structure while preserving its intrinsic aromatic qualities. Blonde displays ripe red fruit, floral hints and a subtle spiciness supported by refined tannins and balanced acidity that speak to this Côte Rotie’s fine cellaring potential.
