Understanding Domaine Rostaing, Cote Rotie, Ampodium, Rhone
The vineyards for Ampodium are scattered across the appellation with a variety of distinctive schist and granite soils characteristic of Côte Rotie. These soils, combined with the ideal microclimate of the region, contribute to the development of Syrah with intense flavour and complexity. Grapes are carefully handpicked and sorted, ensuring only the best fruit is used. The winemaking process includes fermentation using natural yeasts, a practice that enhances the wine's connection to its terroir and adds complexity. Ageing occurs for 12 months in used oak barrels. This stage sees the wine developing a balanced integration of tannins and flavours while maintaining the distinct characteristics of the Syrah grape. Domaine Rostaing's Côte Rotie Ampodium displays dark fruit accented with floral and spicy notes, underpinned by a striking minerality. The wine is full-bodied yet elegant, with silky tannins and a bright acidity that speaks to its ageing potential and the finesse characteristic of Domaine Rostaing’s wines.
