Understanding Domaine Jean Michel Stephan, Cote Rotie, Coteaux de Tupin, Rhone
The Tupin cuvée is predominantly Syrah, reflecting the flagship grape of the Côte Rotie. Fruit is sourced from select parcels in the Tupin vineyard, characterised by a unique soil composition and microclimate. These elements contribute to the wine's depth of flavour and aromatic complexity. Jean-Michel Stephan's approach to winemaking is grounded in a philosophy of natural viticulture and minimal intervention. Grapes are handpicked so only the finest are used and undergo vinification with minimal sulphur. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for 24 months, a step that supports the natural flavours of the Syrah while adding subtle complexity. Tupin cuvée features dark fruit combined with floral nuances and a hint of pepper, a characteristic of Syrah. On the palate, it is both robust and elegant, with well-integrated tannins and lively acidity. Domaine Jean-Michel Stephan Côte Rotie Tupin is not only an exemplary representation of the Côte Rotie terroir but also holds significant ageing promise.
