Understanding Cuilleron, Cote Rotie, Terres Sombres, Rhone
The grapes for Côte Rôtie Terres Sombres grow in steep, terraced vineyards situated along the Rhône River. These vineyards boast schist- and granite-rich soils, imparting a pleasing mineral wash to the wine. The estate prioritises sustainable viticulture practices and vigorous foliage control to promote the depth and richness of the Syrah varietal. Fruit is hand harvested to ensure only the best grapes see vinification. In the cellar, Côte Rôtie Terres Sombres marries tradition and innovation. Fruit undergoes gentle destemming and fermentation with natural yeasts in open-top wooden vats, processes that support purity and elegance. Maturation occurs in a combination of French oak, adding depth and structure to the wine. Full-bodied and velvety with finessed tannins, this Côte Rôtie boasts layers of dark fruit and hints of violet. Notes of smoked bacon, black pepper and earthy minerality add complexity to the wine. Terres Sombres can benefit from a minimum of five years of cellaring.
