Understanding Johann Michel, Cornas, Cuvee Jana, Rhone
The Cuvée Jana is sourced from Johann Michel's prime vineyard plots, characterised by their ancient Syrah vines planted in the unique granitic soils of Cornas. These vines produce grapes of extraordinary quality, mirroring the distinctive attributes of the Cornas terroir. The grapes for Cuvée Jana are harvested by hand to ensure only the best fruit is used. Whole cluster fermentation promotes fruit depth and structure. This is followed by softening malolactic fermentation and lees ageing for 12 to 18 months in a combination of new and old to enhance texture and deepen complexity. Cuvée Jana exhibits dark fruit interlaced with black pepper, leather and a subtle earthiness in a well-structured palate with firm tannins and vibrant acidity. Cuvée Jana has a remarkable potential for cellaring.
