Understanding Jean-Luc Colombo, Cornas, La Louvee, Rhone
The Louvée vineyard is a small, single-vineyard plot planted with Syrah. The vineyard's granitic soils contribute to the distinct minerality and intensity of the wine. Colombo's approach to viticulture emphasises dry farming and sustainable practices, ensuring the health and quality of the vines. Grapes are handpicked and meticulously sorted to ensure only the highest quality fruit is used. Fruit is destemmed and fermented in stainless steel to promote flavour purity and intensity. The wine then ages in part-new French oak for 22 months. Vegan winemaking practices are in place and the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered to promote natural expression. Louvée displays dark fruit, spice and a pronounced mineral edge in a robust, well-balanced palate with silky tannins and a persistent finish. This Cornas has excellent cellaring potential.
