Understanding Domaine du Tunnel, Cornas, Pur Noir, Rhone
Pur Noir is sourced from old Syrah vines planted in some of the most esteemed parcels of Cornas. These vineyards are characterised by their steep granite slopes, which challenge the vines, resulting in low, exceptional-quality yields. Vine age and the unique microclimate contribute to the concentrated flavours and robust structure of the wine. Domaine du Tunnel practises minimal intervention in winemaking. Pur Noir undergoes fermentation in stainless steel to preserve the Syrah’s inherent qualities. Ageing occurs in oak barrels, a portion of which may be new, adding to the wine's complexity. Domaine du Tunnel Cornas Pur Noir exhibits dark fruit, spice and a hint of smoky minerality. The wine's texture is rich and full-bodied, with well-integrated tannins and a long finish. This wine, while impressive in its youth, also has a remarkable capacity for ageing.
