Understanding Auguste Clape, Cornas, Renaissance, Rhone
Cornas Renaissance is cultivated in the steep, terraced vineyards typical of the region. In this location, the vines benefit from a favourable microclimate and granite soils. These factors contribute to the development of grapes with concentrated flavours and a distinct minerality, hallmarks of this appellation. The vinification process of Cornas Renaissance involves meticulous grape selection and traditional winemaking techniques. Fermentation is carried out in a combination of stainless steel and concrete vats to promote fruit purity. The wine sees ageing in a combination of old and new oak barrels. This enhances complexity without masking the varietal’s natural characteristics. Cornas Renaissance displays ripe dark fruit flavours with peppery and earthy notes in a full-bodied palate with well-integrated tannins and a lingering finish. While approachable in its youth, it also possesses a remarkable capacity for ageing.
