Understanding E. Guigal, Condrieu, La Doriane, Rhone
The vineyards for La Doriane are known for their rich diversity with soils rich in granite, shale, limestone and iron oxide. These conditions are ideal for producing Viognier grapes with intense aromatic complexity and a distinct minerality, signature traits of the Condrieu terroir. The vines have an average age of 35 years. The fermentation focuses on preserving the delicate aromas and flavours of the Viognier. This is followed by softening malolactic fermentation to create roundness. The wine is aged in new oak barrels for 12 months, a step that increases complexity. La Doriane reveals a luxurious bouquet of ripe stone fruit, florals and vanilla, complemented by a rich, full-bodied palate, elegant acidity and fresh minerality. This wine has the potential to develop further complexity with cellaring.
