Understanding M. Chapoutier, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Barbe Rac, Rhone
The Barbe Rac vineyard features 90-year-old Grenache vines that yield top-tier fruit. These deep-rooted vines thrive in the vineyard's unique soil composition that contributes significantly to the wine's intense and robust character. Handpicking and sorting are compulsory so only the best fruit is vinified. Grapes are fermented for three weeks in concrete tanks which preserves the Grenache fruitiness and helps integrate tannins. The wine then ages in vats for 16 months, a stage that helps deepen the wine’s rich, complex profile. Barbe Rac features ripe red fruit, such as cherry and raspberry, intermingled with hints of spice, leather and herb framed by elegant tannins. This wine has excellent cellaring potential.
