Understanding le Clos du Caillou, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, La Reserve, Rhone
This Réserve is sourced from the estate’s oldest and most revered vineyards, where the Grenache and Mourvèdre vines are deeply rooted in a diverse mix of soils, including the iconic Galets Roulés (large, heat-retentive pebbles). These ancient vines, some dating back over a century, produce grapes with an incredible flavour intensity and a profound sense of place. Vinification takes place in a combination of oak and cement when it develops layers of complexity while maintaining a fine fruit balance. The wine is aged in a temperature-controlled underground cellar in oak for 12 months, a stage that adds nuance. Le Clos du Caillou’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve displays ripe red and black fruit accented with notes of Mediterranean herbs, liquorice and a hint of earthiness. The palate is powerful yet refined with silky tannins. This wine is renowned for its remarkable potential to age gracefully.
