Understanding Domaine Saint Prefert, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Reserve Auguste Favier, Rhone
The vineyards for the Reserve Auguste Favier are notable for their diverse soil composition, including the characteristic Galets Roulés, along with clay and sand. The vines are located in the domaine’s historic Quartier des Serres sector. Grapes are meticulously hand-harvested, ensuring only the best quality is used. The fermentation process promotes the natural characteristics of the grapes. Half of the wine matures in concrete tanks while the remainder ages in large, used oak casks for 18 months. This stage allows the wine to develop its complex profile, without overpowering the fruit's inherent qualities. Reserve Auguste Favier displays layers of red and dark fruit interwoven with notes of herb, spice and a hint of earthiness. The wine is well-structured, featuring elegant tannins and a vibrant acidity that contributes to its ageing potential.
