Understanding Domaine Saint Prefert, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Collection Charles Giraud, Rhone
The Charles Giraud vineyard is characterised by its varied soils, including the iconic Galets Roulés, limestone and clay, creating an ideal environment for the old Grenache and Mourvèdre vines producing grapes for this blend. Grapes are hand-picked at optimal ripeness, ensuring the highest quality. Depending on the vintage, a small portion of Syrah may be added to the blend to add peppery notes. The winemaking process includes fermentation with natural yeasts and gentle extraction of flavours and tannins. Ageing occurs over 18 months in old traditional oak foudres, allowing the wine to develop complexity while maintaining the integrity of the fruit. Charles Giraud displays dark fruit, spice, herb and a subtle minerality supported by smooth tannins and balancing acidity. This red wine will benefit from years of cellaring when its complexity unfolds.
