Understanding Domaine Raymond Usseglio, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Imperiale, Rhone
The Cuvée Imperiale blend varies with each vintage but is predominantly made from Grenache and supported by other regional varieties. The Grenache wines are over a century old, thriving in the quintessential Galets Roulés and clay soils of the region. These ancient vines produce grapes of remarkable concentration and depth, capturing the essence of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape terroir. The grapes for Cuvée Imperiale are cultivated with sustainable and biodynamic methods, ensuring pure fruit character shines through in the winemaking process. Fruit is hand-harvested and undergoes a “hands-off” fermentation that preserves the natural flavours and complexity of the Grenache. Ageing occurs in traditional vats, which enhances the wine's texture and depth while maintaining the integrity of the fruit. Cuvée Imperiale displays dark fruit, sweet spice, leather and a hint of earthiness in a well-structured, palate with velvety tannins and a lively acidity. Cuvée Imperiale has the potential to age for decades.
