Understanding Domaine du Pegau, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Cuvee Laurence, Rhone
Fruit is hand-picked from old Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre vines grown in the diverse soils of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. These old vines contribute depth and complexity to the wine, while the clay, limestone and iron soil composition adds minerality and structure. The Mediterranean climate plays a crucial role in the development of the grapes, providing optimal conditions for concentrated flavours. Grapes undergo natural fermentation in large, old oak foudres. Unusually, maturation spans several years, a process that imparts additional complexity, smoothness and a unique character to the wine. Cuvée Laurence displays ripe red and black fruit, hints of leather spice, and herbal notes. The palate is richly textured with balanced tannins and a persistent finish. This cuvée has an exceptional capacity for ageing.
