Understanding Domaine de la Janasse, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Chaupin, Rhone
Chaupin, with its well-drained sandy soils, is ideal for Grenache cultivation. These conditions allow for the production of grapes with concentrated flavours and a delicate, nuanced character. The unique microclimate of the area, characterised by warm days and cool nights, further contributes to the balance and complexity of the wine. Grapes are hand-harvested and sorted. Extended maceration is followed by fermentation in a variety of vessels that preserve the distinct character of the Grenache. The wine matures for 12 months in a combination of large oak foudres and smaller barrels. Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Chaupin displays ripe red berry, kirsch, spice and herb. The wine boasts a silky texture, well-integrated tannins and a lingering finish. It can be enjoyed young and also has the structure for impressive cellaring.
