Understanding Domaine Tempier, Tourtine, Bandol, Provence
The Tourtine vineyard, with its sandstone and mark soils, is predominantly planted with Mourvèdre, complemented by Grenache and Cinsault. This blend leverages the strengths of each varietal, with Mourvèdre providing structure and depth, Grenache adding warmth and fruitiness and Cinsault offering elegance and finesse. The vineyard's location, benefiting from the warm Mediterranean sun and cool sea breezes, contributes to the grapes' optimal ripening and complex flavour profile. Harvesting is conducted by hand, ensuring that only the best grapes are vinified. Destemmed grapes ferment with natural yeasts in concrete tanks to tease out fruit depth. The wine matures in large oak casks for 18 months, a method that enhances complexity and depth while preserving the fruit's natural character. Domaine Tempier Bandol Tourtine displays dark fruit, liquorice, herb and a distinct minerality in a robust palate with balancing acidity. This wine’s depth and complexity make it an excellent candidate for ageing.
