Understanding Domaine Guiberteau, Saumur, Breze, Loire
The Brézé vineyard is distinguished by its rich limestone and clay soils, which play a critical role in imparting a distinct minerality and complexity to the Chenin Blanc grapes. The microclimate of the region, characterised by cool nights and warm days, contributes to the grapes' balanced acidity and the development of a nuanced aromatic profile. Winemaking is rooted in respect for the natural processes and the terroir. The vineyard is managed organically, ensuring a sustainable and healthy environment for the vines. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected, with whole cluster fermentation for fruitiness, occurring naturally with ambient yeasts. The wine is then aged on texture-enriching lees for 12 to 18 months in a mix of oak barrels. Saumur Brézé exhibits ripe orchard fruit, white florals and a pronounced chalky minerality on a rich, fresh palate. The wine's harmonious structure and depth make it ideal for ageing.
