Understanding Domaine Guiberteau, Saumur, Arboises, Loire
Les Arboises features limestone soils, which are integral to the development of the distinctive minerality and depth in the Cabernet Franc grapes. The old vines benefit from a favourable microclimate, with balanced temperatures and adequate sunlight. These ensure gradual maturation of the grapes, leading to a perfect harmony of flavours and tannins. Domaine Guiberteau adopts a philosophy of minimal intervention in both viticulture and winemaking. Organic farming practices are employed to preserve the natural ecosystem of the vineyard. The grapes are hand-harvested, destemmed for fruit preservation and are fermented in concrete with natural yeasts. This is followed by maturation in oak barrels for 18 months. This stage contributes to the wine's complexity while maintaining the varietal's authentic character. Saumur Les Arboises displays dark berry, blackcurrant and a hint of bell pepper supported by refined tannins, closing in a structured and balanced finish. This Cabernet Franc is well-suited for cellaring, with the potential to develop added layers of complexity.
