Understanding Clos Rougeard, Saumur-Champigny, Bourg, Loire
Le Bourg vineyard is known for its unique composition of limestone and clay soils, providing an ideal setting for cultivating Cabernet Franc. These soil conditions, coupled with the temperate climate of the Loire Valley, contribute to the development of grapes with a perfect balance of ripeness and acidity. Hand-harvesting of grapes, natural fermentations with indigenous yeasts, and ageing in oak barrels for an extended period, all create a wine that is a true reflection of its terroir. Saumur-Champigny Le Bourg displays dark fruit, floral notes and a distinctive minerality. On the palate, it presents a symphony of flavours, including ripe blackberry, plums and a hint of green pepper, underpinned by firm tannins and vibrant acidity. The wine's remarkable depth and long finish are indicative of its outstanding quality and craftsmanship. This Cabernet Franc has exceptional cellaring potential.
