Understanding Alphonse Mellot, Sancerre, Edmond, Loire
The vineyards of Mellot Sancerre Edmond feature flinty and limestone-rich soils, which impart a distinct minerality to the wine. Organic and biodynamic vineyard management ensures the growth of high-quality, old-vine Sauvignon Blanc grapes that capture the essence of the Sancerre terroir. The region's temperate climate, marked by cool winters and warm summers, contributes to the grapes' balanced acidity and aromatic intensity. Grapes are meticulously hand-harvested and sorted for the best quality. In the winery, fermentation is carried out at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks, preserving the natural fruit flavours and freshness. The wine is then aged in a blend of new and old oak, adding complexity and texture. Mellot Sancerre Edmond is characterised by its citrus fruit, green apple and a subtle hint of herbaceous notes, underpinned by a lively acidity and a rich, full-bodied texture. With its elegant structure and depth of flavour, this Sauvignon Blanc is well-suited for ageing.
