The Premier Cru Les Petits Vougeot cuvée by Domaine Christian Clerget comes from a 0.46 hectare plot of Pinot Noir vines located in the Premier Cru designated Les Petits Vougeot vineyard just to the north of the village of Vougeot. The easterly aspect and limestone-marl soils of the vineyard yield grapes of consistent ripeness and firm phenolic character. This cuvee by Domaine Christian Clerget offers an assertive core of red berries and sous-bois notes alongside a distinctly mineral freshness. This is a fine example of Premier Cru Vougeot from one of the leading producers in the commune.

The Domaine Christian Clerget vines in the Grand Cru Echezeaux vineyard were planted in 1978 and are organically farmed without use of herbicides or pesticides. The grapes are hand-harvested and sorted both in the vineyard and the cuvérie prior to fermentation with ambient yeast in a concrete tank. Extraction is done with both remontage and pigeage techniques. Following fermentation, the wine is pressed to tank, and then racked to French oak barrels, 50% of which were new, where it sees élevage for 18 months. The result is a fine balance between fruit notes and oak tones, offering both substance and freshness on the palate and promising at least a decade of cellaring potential.
