Almost exclusively planted with Pinot Noir, Vosne-Romanée is a communal appellation in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits. Best known for the prestigious Grand Cru vineyards within the appellation, Vosne-Romanée also produces Premier Cru and Village wines. With a network of growers across Burgundy’s best sites, Maison Roche de Bellene decides which parcels to use for each vintage, often selecting fruit from more than one plot. With an emphasis on sustainable and organic farming, the fruit, or base wine come from old-vines, planted on east-facing soils rich in clay and limestone at an elevation of 250m.

Understanding Maison Roche de Bellene, Vosne-Romanee, Vieilles Vignes, Burgundy
The Pinot Noir grapes that go into this wine are hand harvested and carefully selected. A proportion of whole bunches is during the indigenous yeast fermentation. The wine spends up to 14 months in oak barrel (20% to 40% new), followed by filtration but no fining, dependent on the vintage. This is a bold wine, with concentrated red and black fruits and evident smoky spice. As the tannins can sometimes verge on the muscular, cellaring is recommended for over ten years. The wine has long ageing potential.
