Understanding Maison Roche de Bellene, Vosne-Romanee Premier Cru, Les Suchots, Burgundy
The wine is produced from hand-harvested Pinot Noir grapes. A proportion of whole bunches is used during fermentation with indigenous yeast. The wine matures for up to 18 months in 100% new oak barrels. It is usually bottled filtered but unfined, with some vintage variation. This Les Suchots is supple and aromatic with ripe black cherry and red berry fruit, vibrant spices and gamey savouriness. The initially firm tannins require several years in bottle to flesh out, but the wine rewards cellaring of up to 20 years.
