An introduction to Domaine Michel Noellat et Fils, Vosne-Romanee Premier Cru, Les Beaux Monts, Burgundy
The grapes for Domaine Noëllat et Fils Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts Premier Cru come from a small plot of old vines in the Les Beaux Monts vineyard, situated on the slope of the Côte de Nuits just north of the village of Vosne-Romanée. The steep gradient of the slope, south-east facing aspect and relatively high altitude – up to 310 metres – yield grapes that are consistently ripe with good phenolic composition while retaining freshness. This is one of the most respected of Premier Cru Vosne-Romanée vineyards, and the Noëllat cuvée displays the ripe fruit character so typical of the site.

Understanding Domaine Michel Noellat et Fils, Vosne-Romanee Premier Cru, Les Beaux Monts, Burgundy
The grapes for the Domaine Noëllat Les Beaux Monts cuvée are hand-picked, sorted manually and destemmed into temperature-controlled fermentation vats. A period of cold maceration is conducted to assist with colour extraction, after which fermentation occurs for 17-20 days. After pressing, the wine is matured in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new. The tannins and intensity so typical of the Les Beaux Monts vineyard are balanced by the careful use of oak in this wine, which shows length and structure enough to age well for over a decade.
