Domaine de Montille, Vosne-Romanee Premier Cru, Aux Malconsorts Christiane, Burgundy
An introduction to Domaine de Montille, Vosne-Romanee Premier Cru, Aux Malconsorts Christiane, Burgundy
The Aux Malconsorts Christiane cuvée is sourced from a small 0.49 hectare plot of Pinot Noir vines planted in the Premier Cru designated Aux Malconsorts vineyard in the commune of Vosne-Romanée. The Christiane plot of vines is considered distinct from the other Montille holdings in the vineyard. It is located in an enclave adjacent to the famous Grand Cru vineyard of La Tâche. As a result, the terroir here shares characteristics with its neighbour. This cuvée by Domaine de Montille (named after Hubert’s late wife) has a very different character to their broader Aux Malconsorts bottling, offering an exuberant nose of cassis and violets and a firm, graphite core.

Understanding Domaine de Montille, Vosne-Romanee Premier Cru, Aux Malconsorts Christiane, Burgundy
The Domaine de Montille holdings in the Aux Malconsorts vineyard are farmed sustainably and in accordance with biodynamic principles, with much of the work in both the vineyard and cellar conducted in accordance with the lunar cycle. The grapes are hand-picked and mostly destemmed prior to alcoholic fermentation in large wooden vats (though some whole bunches are included to add aromatic complexity and adjust the tannic profile) and extraction is managed by a daily pigeage routine. After pressing, the wine is matured in French oak barrels, of which between 10% and 30% are new, before bottling with non-sterile filtration. Distinct from the domaine’s other Aux Malconsorts bottling, this special cuvée offers an enticing nose of dark fruits and a soft, almost silky texture on the palate, with enough firm tannins and fresh acidity to see it through several decades of careful cellaring.
