The Premier Cru Carelle Sous La Chapelle cuvée by Domaine Yvon Clerget is sourced from a 0.65-hectare parcel of Pinot Noir vines planted in the Carelle Sous La Chapelle vineyard on the outskirts of the village of Volnay. The rocky soil of the vineyard typically produces wines of high acidity, length and freshness, and this bottling by Domaine Yvon Clerget shows a profile of red fruits around an elegant and refreshing core. This is a daintier wine than that produced by the domaine from the neighbouring climat of En Champans, but it offers a perfume and vitality unmatched within the Clerget portfolio.

Understanding Domaine Y. Clerget, Volnay Premier Cru, Carelle sous la Chapelle, Burgundy
The vines that comprise the Carelle Sous La Chappelle cuvée by Domaine Yvon Clerget are on average 30 years old and are farmed sustainably, with much of the viticultural work conducted by hand. The grapes are hand-harvested and sorted meticulously prior to destemming and fermentation in neutral wooden vats for approximately three weeks. After gentle pressing, the wine is racked to French oak barrels of which 30% are new, where it matures for 16-18 months. The result is a lithe and elegant cuvée from Domaine Yvon Clerget, a smart addition to their list that showcases the mastery they have of the various Volnay terroirs.
