Domaine Francois Buffet, Volnay Premier Cru, Clos de la Rougeotte, Burgundy
An introduction to Domaine Francois Buffet, Volnay Premier Cru, Clos de la Rougeotte, Burgundy
The Domaine Francois Buffet Volnay Clos de la Rougeotte is sourced from the 0.52-hectare walled Premier Cru vineyard of Clos de la Rougeotte in the village of Volnay – a monopole owned exclusively by Domaine Francois Buffet. The Clos is planted with Pinot Noir vines with an average age of 50 years, producing low quantities of intensely flavoured but well-balanced grapes. This is expressive of both the Francois Buffet house style and that of the Volnay appellation at large, with great length and purity of fruit and showing great poise in the mouth.

Understanding Domaine Francois Buffet, Volnay Premier Cru, Clos de la Rougeotte, Burgundy
This monopole bottling by Domaine Francois Buffet is sourced from old vines, planted on well drained south-facing soils. Following hand-harvesting, the grapes are partially destemmed and fermented in neutral oak vats. The wine undergoes élevage for 18 months in mostly old French oak. It displays classic Volnay typicity, offering a bright bouquet of red fruits and spice notes on the nose. On the palate, the wine shows great elegance, with fine tannins and a lingering acidity that support it through long-term cellaring.
