The Village level appellation of Saint-Romain, which lies to the south of the Cote de Beaune, produces both red and white wines. Due to the high elevation – upwards of 400m above sea level – a hallmark of the appellation is crispness and freshness. The Domaine Ponsot vineyard of Mesange consists of vines all over 30 years old, planted on predominantly limestone marl soils.

The Domaine Ponsot Saint-Romain Cuvée de la Mesange is sourced from old vines on stony soils that yield fruit with great terroir expression. The high acidity and freshness on the palate is typical of the appellation, and the wine displays delicate floral notes of blossom and pear. This sense of freshness is supported by a touch of neutral oak; only barrels five years old or more are used during élevage to accentuate fruit character.
