Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Saint-Aubin Premier Cru, En Remilly, Burgundy
An introduction to Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Saint-Aubin Premier Cru, En Remilly, Burgundy
The Premier Cru En Remilly at the bottom of Saint-Aubin borders Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet. Planted with Chardonnay, the soils are more akin to Montrachet with calcareous topsoil on limestone lending a flinty character to the wines. Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Saint-Aubin En Remilly comes from a south-facing 0.64 ha plot of three parcels of old vine fruit. One parcel is from an elevated section of the Premier Cru, the other two being mid-slope at the same altitude as Chassagne-Montrachet. This blend of parcels allows the wine to be truly expressive of its site. Needing a few years to harmonise, these are wines that will reward medium term cellaring of 5-10 years.

Understanding Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Saint-Aubin Premier Cru, En Remilly, Burgundy
Following indigenous fermentation in 350-litre barrels for 18 months, using about one-third new oak without bâtonnage, this Chardonnay is hugely expressive of its terroir. The domaine also chooses to store the barrels in a very cold cellar to discourage malolactic fermentation, resulting in a wine which is both plump and weighty but still focused and precise with crisp fruit, real intensity, and trademark sizzling minerality. The wine is a firm favourite among critics, and regularly achieves 95+ points. When reviewing the 2017, Tim Atkin MW called Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey’s En Remilly Blanc ‘the best St-Aubin of the vintage’.
