An introduction to Benjamin Leroux, Saint-Aubin Premier Cru, Les Murgers des Dents de Chien, Burgundy
Benjamin Leroux’s Saint-Aubin Les Murgers des Dents de Chien cuvée comes from the Premier Cru vineyard of Les Murgers des Dents de Chien, situated on the south facing hillsides just east of the village of Saint-Aubin. The high aspect of the vineyard (over 370 metres) produces Chardonnay grapes with high acidity, and this combined with the free-draining soils and beneficial aspect yields wines that are well balanced between fullness and freshness. This cuvée by Benjamin Leroux is a fine example of this equilibrium, showing both length and breadth in equal measure.

Understanding Benjamin Leroux, Saint-Aubin Premier Cru, Les Murgers des Dents de Chien, Burgundy
The wine is made from old Chardonnay vines planted on the upper slope of the Premier Cru Les Murgers des Dents de Chien vineyard. The vines are managed with organic practices and harvest is conducted by hand. In the winery, the grapes are whole bunch pressed and fermented with indigenous yeast in neutral French oak barrels. The wine then matures for 16 months before being bottled with minimal filtration. The result is textured and vibrant, showing notes of blossom and citrus fruits and a fresh minerality.
