Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru, Champ Gain, Burgundy
An introduction to Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru, Champ Gain, Burgundy
Les Champ Gain is a Chardonnay only Premier Cru vineyard located on the upper slopes of the Puligny-Montrachet appellation. The higher elevation and soils which consist of pebbly limestone and broken clay produce wines that are notable for their precision and distinctively lighter style. The Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Les Champs Gains comes from a plot high on the slopes above Les Folatieres, where the soils have more limestone and less clay. Approachable after several years, these are wines that will reward extended cellaring for 5-15+ years.

Understanding Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru, Champ Gain, Burgundy
Made from Chardonnay, the fruit undergoes indigenous fermentation in a mix of oak barrel and larger casks (usually 30-40% new oak), with an extended élevage of around 16 months without bâtonnage. The domaine also stores the barrels in a very cold cellar, thus preventing malolactic fermentation. The result are wines with great precision and intensity, with a notable flinty minerality and racy acidity, a trademark of Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey.
