La Garenne is a vineyard in the world-famous Puligny-Montrachet appellation found in the Côte de Beaune of eastern France’s Burgundy wine region. White wines from Chardonnay grown on this 10-hectare site are classified as Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru. Pinot Noir is also allowed (although labelled as Blagny Premier Cru). The appellation was created in 1937. The vineyard’s name derives from ancient French referring to a walled wood reserved for aristocrats’ hunting. The Domaine Louis Latour Puligny-Montrachet La Garenne boasts fresh citrus notes with almond in a round and persistent, honeyed palate. It can be cellared ideally for five to seven years to encourage further development.

Supporting the domaine’s vision of environmental consciousness, old-vine Chardonnay in La Garenne is farmed sustainably on marl-limestone soils. The site’s southeasterly aspect rewards the vineyard with gentle sunlight for gradual and balanced ripening. To preserve the quality of the fruit, a highly selective manual harvest ensures that only the finest grapes are vinified. The wine undergoes traditional fermentation in oak followed by complete malolactic fermentation for a soft, textured mouthfeel. It is aged in 50% new, medium-toasted oak barrels from the Louis Latour in-house cooperage for eight to ten months to allow components to expand for greater depth and complexity.
